Ughhhhhhhaaaawww

I am not sure of the proper way to spell it but imagine you just asked your child to clean their room and their response was a vocal, but not exactly a word, reaction that resembles all the air being squeezed out of them and makes their eyes roll back in their head. That is what the title of this post is.

"Tal, please clean up your dirty socks"

Ugghhhhaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwww

"Liv, please clean up YOUR toys"

UGGHHHHHHHHHHHAAAWWWW

It is an awesome response and makes me feel something so powerful every time I hear it that I have decided to use it as well...

"Mom, can you make me breakfast?"

UUUUGGHHHAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

"Mom, can I have a friend over?"

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH

I also like to apply the proper body language by throwing myself on the floor and acting like the request is going to kill me.

I fear it hasn't had the effect I was hoping for however, the children just think it is funny.

p.s. In full disclosure I feel I should admit that I never use the word please when asking the children to pick up their own stuff.

She takes after my cousin

All growing up I had a cousin who loved.... I mean L O V E D going through our mom's shoes and trying them on.
She would often suggest that we clean out my mom's closet for something fun to do as a means to get to the shoes.

Livy takes after her!Happy Birthday K!

I guess I am not as green as I thought I was

I once thought that I was super "green" or at least so cheap it seemed like I was an Eco caring type of person.

I have discovered though that saving the planet comes in second to having a baby that doesn't cry.

One evening by accident I found that Fia will happily sit in her car seat for quite a while if the faucet is running.
Millions of gallons of water have been used in this way.
Sorry planet!

Halloween 2009

I asked my children what they wished to be this Halloween.
Tal insisted he be a ghost.
I bought a sheet from goodwill and begged my sister to make it in to a ghost (I was busy holding my new baby).

Livy wavered back and forth between princess and tooth fairy, both costumes were easily doable since all articles needed were in the costume closet
Here she is as a princess tooth fairy

On Friday my parents escorted my children to the ward trunk or treat while I stayed home taking care of Chad and his new companion, the swine flu.
After a few cars Tal declared to his grandparents that he had plenty of candy and it was time to go home even before hitting up every trunk.
He also decided that it was hard to see in the ghost costume and so the next night when Chad's mom took him out for some more traditional trick or treating he went as Indiana Jones even sporting one of these whips

Livy also decided she needed a change in costume and went as Tinkerbell. And all was well!
Don't they look like they are hugging? She is really trying to take his whip

Fia opted to not dress up at all or at least she didn't speak up and that is the same thing to me.

Something that made me smile today

Listening to 3 boys on the way to school discuss their fathers missions.

It went something like this:

- my dad ate snake on his mission
-well my dad wrestled a snake on his mission
-my dad beat a snake to death with a stick and then ate it on his mission

It was awesome!

You know what's not weird at all?

Having a placenta stuck in your freezer.
I know it seems like it should be weird, but it really feels quite natural.
Or maybe I have just gotten use to it.
Chad hardly even gags anymore when he sees it in it's little door shelf snug as a bug.

I was worried that we might accidentally pull it out to defrost for dinner one night (did you just get sick for a moment at that thought?) but there is no pulling it out at all!

I had big plans for it.

It was going to nourish our little apple tree back to health, which in turn would give us a glorious crop of apples and I would share them with all of you and then you would ask, "Megan, how did you grow such delicious fruit?" and I would reply with something witty like, "oh, it is just in me" or something equally as creepy.Unfortunately for everyone I just don't see that happening anymore.

It is so sad.... But not weird!

In other news, we are selling our freezer.
It comes with a little something extra for free.

My Girls

Red Feather Photography was over at my house just yesterday taking some amazing pictures.
I was well aware of her talent, she's done good work for us before, but I was blown away when she sent me a link to the preview of our pictures last night.

Beautiful!!! (and fast)
I don't know how to say this with out sounding like I am bragging, but I think I have the cutest girls in the whole world...
...then again, why not brag about that?

Halloween Traditions

Every year we go get a pumpkin.
Every year Chad is left to the carving of it. (i think it is disgusting)
Every year it turns out amazingly spooky.Every year it dies before Halloween is even here.

And you know what else...

I am just gonna say it...

I don't mind the smell of Fia's poop and her crying doesn't bother me at all!
It is true Love!

I have a secret

With all of my children, but especially with Fia, I love getting up in the night with them.

I mean it wears off after just a couple of months.

But when they are new born and so little I love hearing that new cry break into my dreams and wake me up and I remember all over again that I have a new baby.
I love changing diapers in the dark.
I love feeding them in bed.
I love that no one else can take care of their needs like I can.
And with Fi, I love that no one else is awake to interrupt our time together.

I hate that pacifier but she looooooves it

I still complain about not getting enough sleep, but now you can feel less bad for me since you know I secretly adore my one on one time in the middle of the night.

Now there are 3

Due to the flu, children were not allowed in the hospital in any way, shape or form.
No matter how adorable
No matter how closely related
No matter how you tried to sneak them in
They simply were shown the exit

We did however get a room with a view of a parking lot and the 2 big kids would come regularly to the window to check on us.

It felt very 1960's

Every one wants to know how the children are doing with the new addition,
Were you wondering that as well?

Tal ignored Fia (i am taking the nickname for a test run, what do you think?) the first couple days we were home.
Then out of the blue he asked to hold her and every day since he has held her for a couple of minutes then moved on.Liv is very very helpful.
She likes to make sure Fi (also an option) has plenty of toys at all times.
She likes to help her wake up.
She likes to rub her dirty hands over her pacifier and then shove it in her mouth.
She likes to cry for me to hold her the second I sit down to feed Fi Fi (choice #3).

All things that I predicted

A Birth Review- Part Two

Even though I love having a plan for all things, there are just some things that can't be planned and those are sometimes the sweetest blessings.

3 things we didn't plan on but look how it worked out anyways:

1. My hope was to take a shower, do my hair and makeup in early labor so that when I had Sophia, pictures of me wouldn't be scary.
Instead I slept and slept in early labor and the pictures of me are quite frightening.
In retrospect I wouldn't have had it any other way. Labor is exhausting and hard and the pictures just prove it!

2. Chad kept taking stuff out to the car, pulled the car out of the garage, packed up some more stuff while trying to get me to agree to just go to the hospital.
Then he saw we had a flat tire.
Instead my Mom drove us to the hospital with me in the back laying over one of those big exercise balls and Chad up front.
With Chad not driving he could focus on saying the things I needed to hear and even though that might have been the hardest part of labor, it was probably the sweetest.

3. I kept praying for the week leading up to her birth that my water would just break already, that would have been a sure way to get things moving along.
The bag of water stayed intact.
In fact I was in the pushing phase before it actually broke.
It was mere moments later that Sophia's head emerged with the umbilical cord not wrapped once but 2 times tightly around her neck.
Thanks to the water acting as a cushion she never experienced decelerations in her heart rate to even alert us to a problem.
And thanks to a competent and calm Doctor the cord was cut and then the rest of Sophia was born without incident.

A Birthing Review, Part one

Top 10 Reasons Sophia's Labor and Delivery was Wonderful:

1. The people who were with me. My doula, Kimberly, who was also there when Livy was born, my 3 sisters and my Mom and most importantly Chad. I loved having them surround me. It felt very safe!

2. The massage. My sisters and doula were constantly massaging my feet and back while I labored and Chad would rub my hands and arms.

3. Staying at home as long as possible. I slept between contractions for the first 4 hours and then got to stay in my own bed, use my own bathroom and move around my own house until Chad was so nervous about having a baby at home that he loaded up the car and pushed us out of the house.

4. Chad talking to me. I know Chad isn’t comfortable with the 'talking someone through a contraction' thing but he did so good. He had all the right words for me and I could easily tune into his voice and do just what he told me to.

5. Showing up at the hospital already dilated to a 9

6. My Doctor, Dr. Brass-Jones, standing to the side while I did my thing and pushed whatever way I was comfortable until the head started showing. It made me feel confident that she had confidence in me and my body's own intuition to do what was right for me and baby.

7. The respect the nursing staff showed for my wishes for a quiet room and as little intervention as possible

8. Having Sophia immediately placed on my chest after delivery and left there with me even during immediate observation while holding off on initial weight and measurements.

9. Getting to nurse my very hungry baby after delivery and having a baby who needed no instruction on how to nurse.

10. The most wonderful endorphins I have ever felt after having her and me telling the entire staff, Doctor and family that I love them all!

I am in love with the world.... The whole wide World!

But mostly I am in love with Her:
Sophia made an appearance Sunday October 4th at 8:11am
She weighed 9 pounds 3 ounces which is one ounce bigger than her brother and sister were, if anyone is keeping track.
I am currently on a birthing high and can't tell when I will be coming down!
The birth was amazing and wonderful and hard and everything I could have ever wanted!

as for the pool, my own mother guessed October 4th and 9 pounds 1 ounce but it seems unfair since I told her when i was first pregnant the day that I pick for her to come, and you know how accurate I am at that.

Vonage Boy

Tal loves those Vonage Comercials!
